Doctor Who: Peter Capaldi Asked to Remain Beyond This Coming Season

It is generally thought that Peter Capaldi will leave Doctor Who after this upcoming season. Maybe that will not be the case after all.

There has been a lot of change on Doctor Who recently, and more is yet to come. Jenna Coleman has made her final departure, and Steven Moffat will be leaving after Series Ten. With a new companion coming in, and a new showrunner, it is generally anticipated that Peter Capaldi will also depart, as the show would get a bit of a reboot.

Instead, that may not be the case. Capaldi has been approached by the BBC about remaining on Doctor Who going forward, helping to bring that continuity to Series Eleven and possibly beyond. However, he has yet to make up his mind on doing so.

More from Doctor Who

It is understandable that Capaldi would want to leave his options open and not commit to remaining on Doctor Who after this season. The show does take up quite a bit of one’s schedule, and with the various changes, Capaldi may well want to see what type of chemistry he has with the new companion and Chris Chibnall before giving his final say on the matter.

However, it would be quite unfortunate to lose Capaldi and the Twelfth Doctor after this season. He finally found his stride during Series Nine, as the scripts appear to be more tailored towards his incarnation of the Doctor.

There is also a lot more for the Twelfth Doctor to encounter. Now that he is at peace with himself, and comfortable in his own skin, it is time to realize the potential that Capaldi brings to the character. It just does not feel like the end for the Twelfth Doctor should be approaching, at least just yet.

Next: The universally beloved Wilf

Peter Capaldi’s time on Doctor Who may not be over yet. Hopefully, he will continue on as the Doctor for a few more seasons.
