Video: Dinklage and Clarke Loved Historic Dany/Tyrion Summit in Season 5

One of the major highlights of last season was when fans finally got to see the long-awaited meeting between Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister. For those who haven’t read the books, this meet up hasn’t happened yet on the page, so the show got the honors of staging that first meeting of the minds between the two most intelligent scions of these warring families, and their decision to work together to put Dany back on the Iron Throne. In a year that took some heat for diverging from the books, this was a bright spot.

But it turns out that we fans weren’t the only ones who were really excited about it. Both Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion, and Emilia Clarke, who plays Dany, were fully aware of the historic nature of Tyrion’s audience with the Queen of Meereen, as well as the private council they had behind closed doors afterward. One of the more striking aspects of the video is how in awe of each other’s work Clarke and Dinklage seem to be. We are regularly reminded that actors can be on the show together for years and never actually work together since they are on different continents, both fictionally and literally. But these are two of the biggest stars of the show, and this is the first time they’ve shared a scene. That’s pretty remarkable. As Clarke says: “I think Peter is phenomenal, and getting to act with him has been such a gift.”
