Who/what’s missing from the Game of Thrones Season 6 trailer?

The extended Tyrell family

Fan favorite though she is, Lady Olenna Tyrell didn’t show up in the Season 6 trailer, nor did her her grandson Loras. We got a few glimpses of Margaery, who seems to be bearing the family standard nowadays, but that was pretty much it.

Diana Rigg, who plays Olenna, is on the cast list for Season 6, so she’ll definitely show up, and may even play a meaty role. Loras’ involvement is less certain, but one figures that we’ll have to check in on them at some point. Loras’ absence is a little troubling, though, especially when paired with the news that actor Finn Jones has a new gig playing a Marvel superhero on Netflix. Is Loras about to make like a Game of Thrones character and die?

As long as we’re in King’s Landing, we should mention that neither Kevan Lannister nor Pycelle make an appearance.

Grey Worm, Missandei, and Varys

At the end of Season 5, it was decided that Tyrion Lannister would take up the day-to-day duties of running the city of Meereen in Daenerys’ absence, aided by Grey Worm, Missandei, and Varys. Tyrion made an appearance in the trailer, holding a torch in a dark room (visiting Dany’s dragons?), but the other three were nowhere to be seen.

Varys and Missandei are used to working on the sidelines, so I can believe that neither of them provided any super-exciting footage that just HAD to be in the trailer. The same could be said of Tyrion, really, but the show had to include a least one shot of one of its most beloved characters. You’d figure that Grey Worm would offer up some action footage, but seeing as he’s still recovering from the wound he sustained in “Sons of the Harpy,” maybe he spends Season 6 flexing his managerial muscles.

Elsewhere in Essos, Faceless Man Jaqen H’ghar doesn’t show up. But the Waif does, and aren’t the Waif and Jaqen technically the same person: No One? It’s a confusing plotline, that one.

Edit: Commenter Phil Necro pointed out that Varys is very dimly visible in the back of a shot with Tyrion. Hardly a splashy appearance, though.

The Three-eyed Raven

The Three-Eyed Raven, played in Season 6 by Max von Sydow, doesn’t show up in the Season 6 trailer. He factored pretty heavily into the first Season 6 teaser video, though, so maybe the producers wanted to focus on other things. Meera and Hodor are missing, as well.
