We have all seen those older pictures where someone from the past bares an uncanny resemblance to someone in modern times? Doctor Who has an explanation – Time Lords.
Of all the interesting ideas created on Doctor Who, the Time Lords may well be atop that list. After all, without them, we would not have the Doctor, or the Master/Missy, for that matter. This also allows us to dream that, despite the Time Lords being a fictional entity, someone is truly watching over the planet and protecting its inhabitants from untold cosmic calamities.
As bizarre as it would seem, there may even be evidence to point to the existence of the Time Lord in our own world. A relatively cursory search online will be able to bring up numerous older images, where the person posing over a hundred years prior looks virtually identical to someone in modern times. More often than not, these people are not even related, but the resemblance is still quite uncanny. For instance, a painting from the 1930s of Patrick Dollan, former Lord Provost of Glasgow was recently found — an image which bears a striking resemblance to the Twelfth Doctor.

How could this be? How can someone from the past seem to be a virtual doppleganger to someone walking around during modern times, if they indeed do not share familial genes? Well, let us think about how the Twelfth Doctor took on the face of Caecilius after meeting him during his Tenth incarnation. Perhaps this is a situation where the friendly local Time Lord took on the countenance of someone that he met during his travels, but made a significant impact upon him during their brief time together.
Or, it could be that we are seeing the same person. Even if the Time Lord is stranded here on Earth, it is not like they age at the same rate as us humans. Jimmy Haystack from 1895 Iowa could well be John Smith today, waiting to be permitted to head back to his home among the stars, or to be permitted to use time travel again.

Maybe Time Lords do not exist in our reality, but it could be that we just do not realize that they are here. Perhaps these photos are showing that Doctor Who may have more of a basis in reality than we could have hoped.
