Doctor Who: Will the Doctor Ever Be a Ginger?
By David Hill
The Doctor has gone through many different looks during the time that Doctor Who has been on the air, but there is still one change that he has not yet undergone.
Over the past fifty three years, the Doctor has run the gamut in terms of looks. he has been tall and short, old and young. He has been thin and more heavy set, with very different facial features and distinguishing characteristics, aside from his somewhat questionable attire at times. And yet, in all of his different incarnations, there is still one look that the Doctor has yet to explore.
Thus far, much to his dismay, the Doctor has yet to be a redhead. We can still hear his exclamation of dismay when he realized that he was still “not a ginger” as he regenerated into his Eleventh incarnation. And while the Twelfth Doctor may not have liked the color of his kidneys when he came into being, that lack of red hair was still evident.

One has to think that, eventually, we will see a Doctor with red hair. However, considering that only two percent of the world’s population has red hair, it may take some time. Although, given that a full 13% of Scotland’s population has red hair, there may be a solid area to pull from to give the Doctor his wish of being a ginger himself.
Of course, this could be a bit of an ongoing joke. Let the Doctor remain without red hair, while he potential has a slew of redhaired companions. Donna or Amy could well have been the beginning of such a joke, and with a new companion coming on board during the upcoming season, another redhead may not be a bad idea. Should they give the Doctor a male companion, that may be even more entertaining should he regenerate and again be without red hair.

Perhaps some day, the Doctor will be a ginger, maybe even with the next regeneration on Doctor Who. Until that happens, maybe the Doctor can go out and get some hair dye and pretend to have that desired red hair.
