Doctor Who’s Daniel Hoffmann-Gill to Play Role on First Episode of Season Four of Sherlock
By Leah Tedesco
Daniel Hoffmann-Gill, who played Bors on Doctor Who, is playing a role in the first episode of Season Four of Sherlock.
Directly on the heels of the news that Doctor Who director Rachel Talalay is directing the first episode of the fourth season of Sherlock, we bring you the news that Daniel Hoffmann-Gill — known to Whovians for his role as the Doctor’s friend Bors in the Season Nine prequel ‘The Doctor’s Meditation‘ and the episode ‘The Magician’s Apprentice‘ — is playing a role in that very Sherlock episode. The following is a tweet from him:
All we know at this point is that the character’s name is Gold Teeth, according to Hoffmann-Gill’s online CV. Perhaps it has something to do with the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story ‘The Adventures of the Stockbroker’s Clerk,’ in which two men are found to be the same person from a distinctive gold filling.

I would have liked to have seen Bors as a long term companion to the Doctor. For various reasons, he certainly would have been very different from the sorts of characters whom we are used to seeing in that role — largely that he is from the twelfth century. Sadly, he was turned into a Dalek puppet by Colony Sarff.
As we have reported, the next Doctor’s companion has been cast and will be female. While this is all well and good, it does not rule out a male (or another gender or lack thereof, but that is another discussion) eventually having an extended stint alongside the Doctor on the TARDIS. It is frustrating that so very many men who had potential — such as Bors, Danny Pink, and Rigsy — were not given much of a chance.
