Last night, a select audience got to see the Game of Thrones Season 6 premiere. They also got a load of a new trailer for the season. Now, HBO has made it available to the world. Behold:
I’m sure we’ll be talking about this for a while, but here’s a few quick thoughts:
- Entertainment Weekly said that a lot of the footage from the first trailer was taken from the first episode, but much of this looks like it’s from later in the season.
- Jaqen H’ghar to Arya: “A girl has been given a second chance. There will not be a third.” Isn’t that almost exactly what Doran Martell said to Ellaria Sand in the Season 5 finale? Maybe they’re buddies.
- Some powerful new shots of Sansa, and at 0:42, we finally get confirmation that Walder Frey will indeed be back this year! Hooray…?
- 0:46: Oh, Jorah’s greyscale is spreading up his arm. And just after he got back into Daenerys’ good graces.
- 0:51: I assume that’s Margaery hugging Loras, which would be our first glimpse of him this year.
- 0:53: Burning crosses on an open field in front of Winterfell. If you don’t mind spoilers, click here to find out what that means.
- Davos: “The real war is between the living and the dead, and make no mistake: the dead are coming.” Davos is really becoming the frontman for decency and common sense. He’s probably toast.
- 1:26: Arya totally gets her ninja on during this fight with the Waif.
- 1:31: Brienne and Podrick are standing in front of Tully banners. This means things.
- Oh, they’d best be doing some trick editing there at the end. I will not stand for Tyrion getting his face burned off.
We’ll have a lot more analysis as the week goes on.
