Titan to Release Series of Torchwood Comics

John Barrowman’s big surprise has finally been revealed! Titan Comics just announced that they will be producing a Torchwood series written by John and Carole E. Barrowman.
Back in early March, we reported on John Barrowman cryptically teasing something huge in the works related to Torchwood. At the time, I thought that it was probably not something to do with the Big Finish audio adventures because they had already started to be released. Upon hearing the news that there would be one focussed on Jack Harkness and Ianto Jones (squee, by the way), however, I thought that perhaps I was wrong… Something did not sit well with me about this, though. If this audio story had been Barrowman’s big news, then why did he not post his customary Facebook video announcing it? No… there was definitely something else brewing, I thought.

And so, there was. It turns out that he and his sister Carole are writing a new series for Titan Comics. Jack will return to Cardiff to team up with Gwen Cooper in a continuation of the story arch from Big Finish. (Read the synopsis in the official press release at Comic Book Resources.) Considering the siblings’ experience writing the digital comic series Arrow: The Dark Archer, ‘Captain Jack and the Selkie‘ for Torchwood Magazine, and the Torchwood novel Exodus Code, they are certainly up to the task.
The artwork will be done by Antonio Fuso and Pasquale Qualano, with variant covers by Tommy Lee Edwards, Elena Casagrande, Blair Shedd, and Rod Reis. (Check out all of the covers at io9.) The first issue will be released in the United Kingdom and the United States on July 6th, 2016.

While this is some fantastically exciting news, it is still a frustrating situation for fans. (Just check out the comments on the video… or any of his posts, really.) The longing for the return of the television series is achingly palpable. I am personally feeling it.
