Doctor Who Welcomes Pearl Mackie as the New Companion!
By Leah Tedesco
After much speculation in the media and amongst fans, it has been announced that Pearl Mackie will be the new companion on Doctor Who.
So, the speculative piece from Radio Times yesterday was correct. Pearl Mackie will be playing Bill, the latest companion to the Doctor. The announcement was made during halftime of the Everton v Manchester United FA Cup semi-final. We even got to see a two minute introductory clip of her interacting with the Doctor.

From what has been seen so far, her perspective gives a fresh feeling to the show, and not simply in the usual new companion manner. She bluntly asks questions and makes observations of things that are usually left unspoken. The following is an example of this.
Bill: What’s that thing?
Doctor: A Dalek!
Bill: A what?
Doctor: A Dalek.
Bill: What’s a Dalek?
Doctor: Nevermind. It’s a Dalek.
Bill: Well, that’s not explaining! That’s just saying a word! What’s a Dalek?!
Doctor: It’s an alien war machine. Deadliest alien war machine ever devised.
Bill: Fat, though.
Doctor: I’m sorry?
Bill: Well, it’ll never fit through that door. It’s too wide.
On another note, there was an excellent Back to the Future reference, which is cool considering the vague, yet noticeable similarities between Bill’s and Marty Jr.’s high tops. You can even already purchase her shoes for cosplay or otherwise. We talked a bit about shoes yesterday in ‘Doctor Who Shoe News.’
"Doctor: We need to get back.Bill: Back where?Doctor: Back to the future. Twenty seventeen needs us."
Earlier today on Facebook, Mackie posted a picture of Peter Capaldi at her current show The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which is being performed in London’s West End.
