At a graduation ceremony on July 5th, Tenth Doctor David Tennant will be awarded an honorary doctorate for drama from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Tennant was a student at the school when it was known as the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, having studied drama there from 1988 to 1991. Also receiving honorary doctorates will be choreographer Sir Matthew Bourne for dance and cellist Ralph Kirshbaum for music.

The episode ‘Heaven Sent,’ written by Steven Moffat and directed by Rachel Talalay, has been nominated for a Best Dramatic Presentation (Short Form) Hugo Award. The episode faces some stiff competition against episodes from GrimmJessica JonesMy Little Pony, and Supernatural. This year’s winners will be announced on Saturday, August 20th.

More from Doctor Who

Despite the Hugo Awards being established in 1953 (ten years before Doctor Who aired), the program was not recognized until its revival in 2006. Every year starting then, Hugo has bestowed upon it numerous awards, nominations, and honorable mentions. (That year, it also won the BAFTA Award for Best Drama Series.) The show’s first Hugo nominations were for Best Dramatic Presentation (Short Form) for the stories ‘Dalek,’ ‘Father’s Day,’ and ‘The Empty Child’/’The Doctor Dances,’ with the two-parter winning the award. Also considered that year was ‘The Parting of the Ways.’ Torchwood was nominated for the same award for the 2007 episode ‘Captain Jack Harkness.’ Check out TARDIS Data Core for the full list.
