Doctor Who: When NSFW Life Reflects Art
By Leah Tedesco
Scott Gill, the husband of John Barrowman of Doctor Who and Torchwood, had a rather Captain Jack Harkness-esque moment on Facebook the other day.
When I first watched the Facebook video of John Barrowman‘s husband Scott Gill accidentally giving a live, full frontal reveal to the world, I did not think that we would be writing about it on Doctor Who Watch. While it is an amusing occurrence, it is, after all, a story best relegated to tabloid publications…
Our very own Dave Hill changed my mind, however, when he pointed out the obvious comparison to the scene in which Barrowman’s character Captain Jack Harkness had something somewhat similar happen in the Ninth Doctor episode ‘Bad Wolf.’
"“Ladies, your viewing figures just went up.”"

Bear in mind that we would never share unintentionally leaked nude images of people. Such an act would violate both their privacy and their consent. Both Gill and Barrowman, however, have a very nonchalant attitude regarding the matter. We would love to share the footage, but it is probably against the rules of our company… and it has been taken down, anyway. This is most likely due to Facebook’s terms of service rather than a sense of propriety on the part of Gill and Barrowman. It was actually left up for a decent chunk of time, long enough for people to watch it well past the live feed.

If you would like to take a modest peek, The Daily Mail and The Sun do have censored versions. We also have a couple of addendums that Barrowman released after the original video was posted:
"“In no way are we embarrassed about what happened in the jacuzzi. And if anybody else like is offended or whatever… The human form and the body, no matter what size you are — the nude body, there’s nothing wrong with it. We should celebrate how we look and what we have. We’re all different shapes and sizes. And I’ve always said you can go back to interviews with me from long, long ago… Scott and I nude sunbathe. We don’t care and it was just by accident you saw the whole thing. . . . [H]e kinda knew there and then.”"
