Doctor Who by Wes Anderson Concept Fan Creations
By Leah Tedesco
What if film writer and director Wes Anderson worked on Doctor Who? A couple of fans created media envisioning just that.

In November of 2014, I wrote an article titled ‘Potential Writers and Directors for Doctor Who‘ which discusses various individuals who would hypothetically do a good job working on the program. One of them is a favorite film writer and director of mine, Wes Anderson. Well, another Whovian recently had the same idea.

With a montage set to ‘Powerman‘ by The Kinks — using footage from various episodes during Peter Capaldi’s time as the Twelfth Doctor — Youtube user Punydoctor created a fantastic fan trailer for a fictional film called The Doctor Disco. The title takes the Doctor’s self-appointed alias “Doctor Disco” from the episode ‘The Zygon Invasion‘ and puts “The” at the beginning, reminiscent of the titles of some of Anderson’s most popular films. The trailer imagines what it would be like if Anderson were in charge of major aspects of making Doctor Who.
Watch the trailer below:
From this video, the concept appears to work even better than I imagined. It also seems that at least a couple of characters in the Whoniverse have noticeable equivalents to those in the universe of Wes Anderson films. For example, one could easily picture Bill Murray as the Twelfth Doctor and Angelica Huston as Missy. I would obviously prefer the original actors to remain in the roles, though.
As a bonus, when I was doing research for this article, I came across the following track, ‘Doctor Who (Wes Anderson Style)’ by Abby (Mud Home) on SoundCloud. It is the Doctor Who theme music in the style of Anderson’s film scores.
It is unlikely that Anderson will ever be involved with Doctor Who, but it is fun to consider what could be.
