Tourism Ireland’s GoT Territory campaign continues. This year, the agency is taking wood from trees along the Dark Hedges, a Northern Irish landmark that stood in for the Kingsroad on Game of Thrones, and fashioning it into gorgeously carved doors, each of them inspired by a different episode of Game of Thrones Season 6. This week, Tourism Ireland has turned its attention to “Book of the Stranger,” and the results speak for themselves.
Each of the doors will be housed in a different pub across Northern Ireland—this one currently resides in the Blakes of the Hollow in County Fermanagh. Tell me that wouldn’t make for a great conversation piece.
Once all 10 doors are in place, the GoT Territory campaign will climax in an epic pub crawl. Would that I had several thousand frequent flyer miles.
Let’s take a closer look at the door.
Here’s a depiction of the final scene from “Book of the Stranger”—notice the burning Dothraki temple near the bottom of the shot. Here’s how Tourism Ireland describes it. “The scale and ferocity of the dragons represent a change in fortunes for House Targaryen, as Daenerys takes steps to reassert her dominance over her enemies and her Dothraki hosts.” That kid’s gonna be okay.
The falcon of House Arryn also makes an appearance, “depicted flying high above the chaos below (mostly due to Littlefingers’ scheming). You might say it’s poised at the ready to dive into the fray…” Remember, the Knights of the Vale are among the few soldiers in Westeros who haven’t been exhausted by the War of the Five Kings, so the prospect of them entering the fray is important.
Also, Tourism Ireland has teamed up with the Royal Mail to produce a number of limited edition Game of Thrones-themed stamps. Unfortunately, they’re only available in Northern Ireland, but those who live elsewhere can still ogle them from afar. This week, House Arryn gets a turn in the spotlight.
We’ll be bringing you more information about the GoT Territory campaign throughout the season.
