Knee-jerk reaction to “The Door:” five best and worst moments
FLEA BOTTOM BROWN (WORST) MOMENTS
FLEA BOTTOM BROWN FIVE: You can’t build a warship with five guys and a hammer—not quickly, at any rate. Maybe the kingsmoot was just a meeting for Ironborn lords, I get it, but I’ve never gotten the feeling that there are a lot of people on the Iron Islands. Just how long is it going to take them to build the thousand ships Euron is asking for? I’d kinda think Yara and Theon would have died of old age by then.
FLEA BOTTOM BROWN FOUR: Jorah gets a pity pardon. It was nice of Dany to order Jorah to go find a cure for the grayscale, but you knew the guy was doomed already. Although somebody did save Shireen. Where is that guy?
FLEA BOTTOM BROWN THREE: Never lie to a formerly dead man. Did Sansa really have to lie to Jon about her visit with Littlefinger and how she got her info on the Blackfish and his army? I understand she didn’t want Jon to realize how she slipped away to see Littlefinger but, with a great battle looming, is it smart of her to deny her desperate (and outnumbered) side an alliance with the Knights of the Vale just because she’s mad at Littlefinger? (Kudos to Brienne for calling Sansa on her lie, btw).
FLEA BOTTOM BROWN TWO: Never trust a Red Woman. Just when I thought Tyrion and Varys were bright enough to always make the smart play, they may have duffed it. Though they did make a good case for using her to spread the information they want her to, they also seemed to ignore the danger of allowing a cobra inside the house. It was a great moment when Varys tried to play her and she played him back, but maybe that might have been a good time to send her packing.
FLEA BOTTOM BROWN ONE: Never play with greensight matches. Did Bran have to go off having visions on his own without the Three-Eyed Raven’s supervision? Like Varys and Tyrion above, I thought he was smarter than that. And by getting the mark of the Night’s King on his arm, is Bran now directly responsible for the deaths of his mentor, Hodor, and the Children of the Forest? Or was the White Walker army destined to find them anyway? Bad move either way, Bran old boy.
BONUS VALYRIAN STEEL MOMENT: The play within the play viewed by Arya is reminiscent of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. So much mystery following the unnatural death of a king. Game of Thrones may give Hamlet, which ends with a stage covered in dead bodies, a run for its money when all is said and done.
WRAP IT UP AND PUT A BLOODY BOW ON IT: SUPERB episode! From Tormund flashing Brienne that smile to the wild ending with the White Walker army under the weirwood tree, I LOVED it. What did you think?
