Aidan Turner is not interested in taking on the role of the Doctor once Peter Capaldi leaves Doctor Who, but for a different reason than one would expect.
As someone that has in The Hobbit, Aidan Turner has certainly built up quite a bit of currency in the fantasy world. With his performance in shows like Poldark, and being rumored to be in the running to be the next James Bond, Turner is one of the hotter actors out there.
Naturally, given his background, Turner would be a logical name to come up as the next Doctor whenever Peter Capaldi departs from Doctor Who. He would seemingly take the show back to the time before the Twelfth Doctor, potentially invoking the David Tennant era given his looks, or perhaps the Paul McGann era given the personality of some of his characters.

However, Turner has stated that he is not interested in the role. This is something that other actors that have been linked to the role have stated, often citing their respect for previous Doctors and not wanting to tarnish the role. Turner, meanwhile, stated that he would turn down the chance because he feels that his Being Human co-star, Russell Tovey, would be a great fit.
Tovey has already appeared on Doctor Who, being cast as Alonso Frame during Voyage of the Damned and The End of Time. He was also previously mentioned as a possible candidate to take on the role, as Russell T Davies listed him as one of his choices and the issue 403 of Doctor Who Monthly stating that Tovey was a strong candidate for the role ultimately given to Matt Smith.
When asked about his interest in the role, Tovey was somewhat non-committal, only saying “so there you go” when asked. Perhaps it makes sense that he wouldn’t give an enthusiastic response, having been in the running for the role before and missing out. Also, with Capaldi still in the role of the Doctor, and without any announcements of his leaving the show, it is understandable that he would not want to get his hopes up.

Maybe Aidan Turner is not willing to take on the role of the Doctor, but he has an interesting candidate in mind for the role. Russell Tovey had been in the running before, and maybe, if Capaldi is departing, it is finally his time to take on the title role on Doctor Who.
