As Qyburn might say, “the work continues.” The folks behind the GoT Territory campaign continue to fashion gorgeously carved doors based off episodes of Game of Thrones Season 6. The latest door, based off “Blood of My Blood,” is housed at the Fullerton Arms in Ballycastle, Northern Ireland, and centers around Daenerys’ final speech to her Dothraki horde. Behold:
Drogon dominates the display here. According to GoT Territory, “It also can’t be a coincidence that Dothraki horses at the bottom of the door appear encircled by the beast’s tail. An indicator of Daenerys’ protection, or perhaps maybe more her dominance…”
Drogon looks properly terrifying here, and the horses look more than a little scared. When the power disparity is that great, there may be no other way to react. As with last week, I like that this door sticks to one theme: zeroing in on Daenerys’ iron grip on the Dothraki gives it focus, and the image of the horses encircled by the dragon’s tail is simple and powerful.
On top of being generally awesome, the material used to make this door is literally a part of Game of Thrones history. The woods comes from a tree along the Dark Hedges, a Northern Irish landmark that once stood in for the Kingsroad on the show. Some of the trees were felled by Storm Gertrude, and rather than let the lumber go to waste, the GoT Territory campaign repurposed it for this project. When all of the doors are completed, fans will be able to trek across the country and visit them in an experience that’ll be part bar crawl/part quest.
The GoT Territory campaign is also producing, in conjunction with the Royal Mail, a number of limited edition Game of Thrones-themed stamps, although they’re only available in Northern Ireland. This week, the three-headed dragon of House Targaryen steps into the spotlight. Be sure to only use these on particularly epic correspondence.
Stay tuned for next week, when the GoT Territory campaign will take on “The Broken Man.” A lot of design possibilities are already suggesting themselves.
