2. Nymeria

Nymeria, named for an ancient warrior queen from Essos, competes with Lady for direwolf with the least amount of screen time. However, unlike Lady, Nymeria remains alive, even if we haven’t seen her since Arya chased her off in “The Kingsroad,” the second episode of the series.

Despite her lack of screen time, it was immediately clear that Nymeria shared the same recklessness as her master Arya. Nymeria also appeared brighter than some of the other direwolves, even helping Arya to pack as the children prepared to leave for King’s Landing. And like her litter mates, Nymeria was fiercely protective of her master, as evidenced by her mauling of Joffrey after the later attempted to strike Arya with his sword on the way to King’s Landing. The incident would lead Arya, fearing for her friend’s safety, to chase Nymeria away.

Filming rumors suggest that Season 6 might show the return to Nymeria. In the Song of Ice and Fire books, she roams the Riverlands at the head of a pack of ordinary wolves, menacing Freys and others in the Riverlands. With Jaime and Brienne both headed that way, might we see a glimpse of Arya’s old companion?
