Doctor Who: Mark Gatiss to Return in Series Ten

It seemingly isn’t a season of Doctor Who without Mark Gatiss. While we had to expect his eventual return, he recently confirmed that he is going to be one of the writers for Series Ten.

Mark Gatiss had made quite a name for himself in Doctor Who. Whether as an actor, a writer, or a novelist, Gatiss has cast quite a large shadow on the Whoniverse. His contributions — not just in quantity, but in stature — are quite impressive.

Given Gatiss’ numerous contributions, it just does not feel like a new season of Doctor Who unless he is involved. Well, it turns out that he will be back once again for Series Ten, as he confirmed that he will be writing a new episode, his third for the Twelfth Doctor and his ninth overall for the show.

More from Winter is Coming

While Gatiss did not give any details as to what he is writing about, he may have given us a hint last year. Following his episode ‘Sleep No More’ — which ended with Rasmussen getting his video to the masses — Gatiss stated that he was working on a sequel. After all, the episode was left open-ended for that specific purpose, down to the point where the ending went out of its way to show that the Doctor did not win the battle… a rare way to end an episode of Doctor Who, but a problem that the Doctor likely realizes.

Does this mean that the Doctor will be returning with Bill to take care of some unfinished business? Is Rasmussen’s plan to turn everyone into those Sandmen via the video coming to fruition? Or is Gatiss going to take the Doctor on a different adventure, with the Sandmen lurking as a threat to come back at some nebulous point in the future?

Another question is, will he return to the screen for the show once again?

With Mark Gatiss is returning for another season on Doctor Who, we are sure to have something quite imaginative to which we can look forward. It just would not feel the same without him.
