HBO has been very reluctant about releasing information about this year’s Game of Thrones‘ episodes. One would have thought the network would have confirmed the title of this Sunday’s upcoming episode and given us a synopsis by Monday afternoon, after “The Broken Man” had finished broadcasting around the world. But it took until this morning to get confirmation of what we already knew: next week’s episode is entitled “No One.”
Let’s get to the synopsis, which is maddeningly vague as ever:
"While Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) weighs his options, Cersei (Lena Headey) answers a request. Tyrion’s (Peter Dinklage) plans bear fruit. Arya (Maisie Williams) faces a new test."
Jaime weighing his options is clearly a reference to the coming siege of Riverrun, and if it’s worth killing all those Tullys if it allows him to rush back to Cersei’s side in King’s Landing. I assume that Cersei “answering a request” is a cute way of talking around the fact that she’s been commanded to appear at her trial on charges that she committed incest and adultery and whatever else we’re accusing her of this week that she probably did.
Tyrion’s plan bearing fruit…now that’s a very interesting statement. Most of us have been assuming that pairing up with the Red Priestess was a disaster in the making. Did it actually pay off?
As for Arya facing “a new test,” I guess “attempting to not be killed by the Waif” would indeed count as a “test” of sorts. Perhaps we can think of it as the Faceless Men’s A-levels, as opposed to her earlier tests, which would be the equivalent of their O-levels.
