GoT Territory presents…Valyrian Steel Kitchen Knives!

Throughout the course of Game of Thrones Season 6, the folks behind the GoT Territory campaign have been designing a series of beautiful doors fashioned out of wood from trees that once stood along the Dark Hedges—a Northern Irish landmark that has stood in for the Kingsroad on the show—but were felled by Storm Gertrude. And don’t worry; they have a new door based on “The Broken Man.” But they also have a little something extra this week. I present you with: kitchen knives made from Valyrian steel!

Okay, well, not literally, because Valyrian steel doesn’t exist. But this is as close as you’ll get on the planet Earth. To celebrate HBO’s choice to film Game of Thrones Season 6 in Northern Ireland, the GoT Territory campaign drafted Master Blacksmith Owen Bush to fashion kitchens knives from three ingredients: Northern Irish iron ore, volcanic obsidian (aka dragonglass), and meteorite. As in, from the sky. These blades are made from space rocks.

Owen Bush hard at work protecting the world from White Walkers / cutting down on prep time in the kitchen.

As you can see in the header image, the resulting blades are beautiful. Then, GoT Territory sent the knives to professional chef Stephen Toman, who operates the Michilin-starred OX restaurant in Belfast, to put them to the test. According to the release, Toman “used them to create a banquet worthy of Westerosi knights – rack of lamb from the Mourne Mountains in Co Down, braised liver, smoked celeriac and wild garlic. The knives now sit in pride of place in a secure case in OX.” So if you want to see to coolest knives in the world, that’s where you should go.

Now, on to this week’s door. Check it out:

This door is housed in Gracehill House in Ballymoney, Northern Ireland. Although he died a couple of episodes back, the Three-Eyed Raven looms large over this door, perhaps symbolizing Bran’s inheritance of the title, or Jon and Sansa’s attempts to rally the North. After all, as the release points out, in the end, “all the Starks will be fighting for the same cause.” Let’s take a closer look, from bottom to top.

At the bottom of the door, the crown may symbolize Tommen. Those swords poised over the crown can’t bode well for him.

I did the three eyes in the center, and the hourglass reminds us that time to right Westeros before the White Walkers invade is running out.

At the top of the door, the Stark direwolf is placed prominently.

Finally, the GoT Territory campaign has another limited edition Game of Thrones-themed stamp for us. This week, the dearly departed Three-Eyed Raven is front and center.

Check back next week, when we see what GoT Territory comes up with for “No One,” as Season 6 barrels toward its big finish.
