Doctor Who: Matt Smith and David Tennant Want to Return

Just three years ago, during the 50th Anniversary Special, we were treated to having David Tennant and Matt Smith together on Doctor Who. Given how well they meshed, it is not a surprise that they would want to make their return together once again.

Perhaps one of the best moments of the revival of Doctor Who came during the 50th Anniversary Special, when Matt Smith and David Tennant met up. The chemistry between the two was immediately evident, and when the special ended, we lamented that their time together had ended, as well.

We could only hope that maybe, at some point in the future, both would return once again. However, as they had just been on the show together, it seemed as though that would not happen. If it were to happen, it probably would not for quite some time, perhaps making Tennant too old to come back as the Tenth Doctor. Under such circumstances, at best, we could see him in a role the likes of the Curator.

If Tennant and Smith were to get their way, however, we would not have to wait long to see both former Doctors back in action. After all, just as Tennant returned to the show after his run, Smith did so as well, reminding Clara that the Twelfth Doctor needed her support more than ever. Despite the seeming finality of their last appearances, it does not mean that Tennant and Smith would not want to come back once again. Smith in particular is quite enthusiastic about a return as the Eleventh Doctor.

In fact, his plan to bring both Doctors back is quite interesting. He would want to split the season between he and Tennant, with each Doctor getting six episodes each. Obviously, as he pointed out, that would be problematic, given that Peter Capaldi is still in his role.

That arrangement could be interesting in having both with Capaldi, even if just for an episode each. It would give a nice balance to Capaldi’s Doctor, and provide a fun look into how he regards his past incarnations. Although, it is difficult to imagine that the more serious and jaded Twelfth Doctor would find much humor in the less serious previous incarnations. The downside of this plan is that it doesn’t sound as if the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors would be interacting.
