Cersei really is fooling herself that she still has a place close to her son’s ear, where she can whisper into it.
That they stood her here, so far from the dais, was especially striking. You know the last character we saw standing there while a royal pronouncement was made? Sansa, when Joffrey announced he would marry Margaery instead and she was so happy to finally be free.
Cersei is not happy to hear the proclamation that trials by combat are outlawed. Tommen very deliberately does not look at her while making it.
And he leaves while she is stuck across the hall, in no danger of having to say hi. He’s lost to her now. It’s just matter of her accepting it.
If Cersei is finally seeing the truth of her situation in King’s Landing, Tyrion’s still trying to pretend he’s hanging out with Bronn and Shae in the Tower of The Hand over in Meereen.
It doesn’t go well. Kind of like that “peace” he brokered with the masters.
