Over the past two weeks, the internet has been graced with not one, but two fantastic fan-made TARDISes. What makes things even more fun is the way in which they were constructed.
Back in March, we brought you a story about a fan-made Dalek. On June 5th, the official Doctor Who Facebook page posted a timelapse video of fans for the Doctor Who Festival at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia building a life-size TARDIS out of LEGOs. Weighing in at greater than four hundred kilos (which is just shy of eight hundred and eighty two pounds), it took more than seventy five thousand bricks and over three hundred hours to build.
The construction team was headed by

. According to Workshop Manager
, their TARDIS — that was “built at the end of last year” — needed air ducts due to the fumes from the glue in combination with the confined work area. Other team members include

For our second example, reddit user Jannes351 recently shared that they had created a miniature TARDIS using a Printrbot Simple Metal 3D printer. (User Ged_UK joked that a “type 40” machine was used.) In response to an inquiry about the inside, Jannes351 says that it is “still printing…” The diminutive police box measures six inches in height, and was made using a pattern designed by Thingiverse user countspatula (Sean Charlesworth), who used the official BBC blueprints of the TARDIS from around the time of the Ninth and early Tenth Doctors.
