Doctor Who: Jenna Coleman Welcomes Pearl Mackie

Pearl Mackie has gotten quite a bit of support from current and former actors on Doctor Who. That includes the most recent companion, Jenna Coleman, who reached out with a gift for her successor.

After spending close to three years on Doctor Who, one could understand if Jenna Coleman still somewhat regarded the part of the companion as her own. Even though Coleman vacillated between leaving and coming back before finally departing the show, Clara, in all her incarnations, was quite the important part of the Doctor’s life, as well as the past few years of the show as a whole.

Instead, Coleman was amongst those who gave Pearl Mackie, the actor playing the new companion, Bill, a warm welcome to the show. She even included a gift, sending a bouquet of flowers to Mackie to welcome her aboard the TARDIS as the Doctor’s latest companion.

Here is a picture of said bouquet:

In the grand scheme of things, such a small gesture may not seem to be worthy of notice. Given the mixed reaction that Mackie’s introduction caused, however, any kind gesture would likely be appreciated by the new cast member. A bouquet of flowers can have a great deal of meaning in a situation such as that, especially as a reminder that not only is the role hers, but that those companions who came before, such as Coleman, are standing by in support.

These welcomes often fly under the radar, being hidden in the news cycle due to other events going on at the same time. Likewise, as we tend to be bombarded with the negative, a light, positive moment such as this is typically swept aside. Regardless, it is great to see the welcoming support that Mackie has received since joining the Doctor Who family, especially from those who had been on the show previously.

A bouquet of flowers may not seem like much, but it still shows the supportive and welcoming atmosphere of Doctor Who. After her initial reception, that small gesture may be enough to show that she is not in this alone.
