For months, the GoT Territory campaign has been carving beautiful doors inspired by episodes of Game of Thrones and placing them in all over Northern Ireland. Their final door is based on “The Winds of Winter,” and it’s a doozy.
This door, like all the others, is made from woods from fallen trees along the Dark Hedges, a Northern Irish landmark that has stood in for the Kingsroad on the show. As you can see, the lion of Lannister is prominent in this composition. It’s isolated, but also paramount, just like Cersei. Let’s take a closer look at some of the details.
The Tyrell rose and the Seven-Pointed star are joined together, not that this’ll save them.
The sept of Baelor is stately, but the design beneath it suggests that fire that will soon burn it to the ground. Poor Margaery.
Really, we could keep talking about the detailing on the door for a while. Also notice how the Stark and Targaryen sigils are in the bottom corners, suggesting that these two factions may soon be closing in on the Lannisters.
The final door will be housed at the Dark Horse in Belfast, appropriately enough the center of production for the show.
The GoT Territory campaign has also partnered with the Royal Mail to produce a number limited edition stamps. This one, the last of the year, depicts the pin worn by the Hand of the King, traditionally a precarious position. You can tell that this is the Hand of the King pin and not Tyrion’s new Hand of the Queen pin, since the hand in question looks scaly and creepy. I’d say that represents Kevan’s luck, not Tyrion’s, at least not yet.
Thanks to the GoT Territory campaign for providing these materials to us throughout the season! It was a really fun project, and a great way to highlight what Northern Ireland has to offer.
