Ten questions Game of Thrones Season 7 needs to answer

9. Who controls the Riverlands now?

This question is perhaps the trickiest of any on the list, as it’s unclear who’s still alive on the show. In the books, and in some scenes early on in the series, it’s made clear that Walder Frey has more sons that the viewer, or even Lord Walder, can count. However, in Season 6, the show zeroed in on two of them: Black Walder Rivers and Lothar Frey, the same two whom Arya baked into a pie and fed to their father. Still, he has tons more, and odds are that there’ll be some in-fighting among the brothers to see who will take the old man’s place.

As the show hurtles towards a conclusion, it’s unclear if it’ll have time to devote to a family squabble regarding the line of succession in House Frey. Quite simply, the show has bigger fish to fry (or to Frey…geddit?), and it’s possible we’ll never find out who who takes Lord Walder’s place as Lord Paramount of the Trident.

An outside contender? Walder Frey did make a point to mention that Edmure Tully was locked up in the dungeons of the Twins again. He could perhaps be freed in some fashion, at which point it’s likely that the Lords of the Riverlands would rally to their former overlord, in much the same way the lords of the North rallied to the Starks.
