Ten questions Game of Thrones Season 7 needs to answer
By Corey Smith
6. Will Cersei take a king?
Daenerys is thinking about marriage, but what about Cersei? Queens have never ruled the Seven Kingdoms on their own, so we aren’t quite sure what she has in mind. Will she throw caution to the wind and marry Jaime? Or will she want to enter into a politically or militarily advantageous alliance? The final option, of course, would be for Cersei to rule on her own, without a king to share the burden, and the power.
Cersei doesn’t have a strong track record with marriage. She suffered through her marriage to Robert Baratheon before having him killed. Then she was engaged to Loras Tyrell, but ended up having him arrested and blowing him up, along with half the court at King’s Landing, at his trial. Clearly, Cersei is independently minded.
And if she did want to make a marriage alliance, who would it be with? She faces the same problem Dany does: the pickings are slim, and the likes of Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister are far less likely to consider Cersei than Dany. We think it’s unlikely that Cersei will agree to marry again unless it’s for love. That could mean Jaime, but she and her brother might not be seeing eye to eye after her destruction of the Sept of Baelor.
