Ten questions Game of Thrones Season 7 needs to answer
By Corey Smith
5. How will the White Walkers get past the Wall?
Originally, we thought this question would be answered at the conclusion of Season 6. It wasn’t, although the show has dropped hints about where it’s going.
Before Uncle Benjen rode off with the only horse, he dropped a knowledge bomb on Bran and Meera: the Wall is not simply a physical barrier, but a magical one as well. As long as it stands, the undead (including Benjen) cannot pass.
Most show-only fans had wondered why the White Walkers had not simply climbed the Wall, and Uncle Benjen appeared to answer that question. But if they cannot pass the Wall as it stands, that would mean the White Walkers have some plan for bringing it down. There are hints and clues in the books as to how that might be possible, but it may be simpler on the show.
Remember that, after he marked Bran in “The Door,” the Night King was able to march in to the Three-Eyed Raven’s cave, where before he was kept away by enchantments. The same could happen at the Wall. If Bran makes it back into the Seven Kingdoms, it’s possible that the mark he still bears will allow the Night King and his army to follow, and the beginning of the invasion we have all been warned about since the series will have begun.
