Doctor Who: Bill Anderson To Direct Episode in Series Ten
By David Hill
We will be getting another debut on Doctor Who, as Bill Anderson will be making his directorial debut on the show in Series Ten.
It feels as though we are learning more about who is going to be involved behind the scenes at Doctor Who in Series Ten than we are about who is actually going to be on the screen. We know that Bill is joining the Doctor, and we know that Nardole will be around as a recurring character, but we do not have a lot of knowledge about other guest stars or new characters that will be joining the show.
Meanwhile, there has been quite a bit of news about the incoming directors and writers for Series Ten. That has continued, as it was recently announced that Bill Anderson — who has directed such shows as Spooks and DCI Banks, amongst other shows — will be making his debut on Doctor Who this upcoming season.
More from Winter is Coming
- For All Mankind finally gives us information in Episode 405, “Goldilocks”
- Watch a stunning VFX breakdown of The Wheel of Time season 2
- Of course Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon) thinks Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen) should rule Westeros
- Confirmed: The Last of Us season 2 will air in 2025
- Final season of Star Trek: Discovery will have “a lot of action, a lot of adventure, a lot of fun”
Right now, the plot of the episode that Anderson will be directing is unknown, as is when it would be aired. According to speculation, Anderson is expected to be a part of the second block of the filming for the upcoming season, although that thought appears to be based on pure conjecture.
It will also be interesting to see what Anderson’s vision for the episode that he directs will be. Steven Moffat has said that this upcoming series will have big changes, so it will be fascinating to see how much Anderson’s vision matches Moffat’s, as well as incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall’s view of the show.
Should Anderson’s style line up with what Chibnall wants to see with Doctor Who going forward, this debut could be a foot in the door for additional episodes down the line. A new direction, and a new showrunner, could well lead to Anderson returning to work on following seaons.
