Sign a petition to show Game of Thrones episodes on IMAX screens again
By Dan Selcke
A couple of years ago, HBO did something special for Game of Thrones fans: it screened the final two episodes from Game of Thrones Season 4—”The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children”—on IMAX screens throughout North America and in the U.K. The campaign was a success. Tickets sales were brisk, and the experience was, by most accounts, awesome. Game of Thrones is a big, sweeping show with a lot of epic imagery and rousing music, so it’s no wonder it works well on the big screen.
Unfortunately, the show didn’t return to IMAX screens in Season 5, although I think most can agree that “Hardhome” would have been amazing to see in a proper movie theater. The final two episodes of Game of Thrones Season 6—”Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter”—were among the most cinematic in the show’s history, and Alex Kersey of Orlando, Florida has set up a petition on Change.org to try and convince HBO to show those episodes on the big screen.
If there’s even a small chance signing the petition could help convince HBO to let fans see the Battle of the Bastards or the burning of the Sept of Baelor in a theater, I think it’s worth doing, because that would be tremendous. Just picture hearing Ramin Djawadi’s “Light of the Seven” in surround sound while a fifteen-foot High Sparrow is consumed by wildfire on a screen in front of you. If you like, head here to lend your support.
In other Game of Thrones esoterica, Microsoft has debuted a special Xbox One videogame console with a design based on Game of Thrones. It is pretty.
It doesn’t look like the console is for sale, but you can enter to win one by going to one of Xbox France’s social media pages—Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook—and following the instructions. It’s unclear if the contest is limited to entrants situated somewhere particular on the planet.
