Supersized Take the Black Podcast: Game of Thrones Season 6 Review, Part 2

facebooktwitterreddit

Welcome back to another edition of Take the BlackWinter is Coming’s official Game of Thrones podcastIf you’ve been following along, then you know that, last week, we covered Game of Thrones Episodes 601 through 605 as part of our Season 6 wrap-up. This week, we conclude it all, starting with Episode 606, “Blood of my Blood,” and then, two and a half hours later, we end on a high note with “The Winds of Winter,” the Season 6 finale.

This week’s topics include:

  • Was it really necessary to have three slow episodes in a row (“Blood of My Blood,” “The Broken Man,” and “No One”) after the five gut punch episodes that started the season?
  • What were our favorite parts of these “transitional” episodes?
  • If all she was going to do was defy the Faceless Men and return home, was Arya’s time in Braavos ultimately a complete waste of time?
  • Does getting gut-stabbed in Game of Thrones mean you will automatically live, while being back-stabbed mean you’ll most certainly die?
  • Was Lyanna Mormont the real MVP of the three transitional episodes? And if so, does she get a vote for MVP of the season?
  • Corey Smith liked Randyll Tarly a lot. Is there something wrong with him? (Boo him in the comments section.)
  • Do Dany’s other dragons, Viserion and Rhaegal, actually follow her, or Drogon?
  • Should Sansa have told Jon about Littlefinger?
  • Has Sansa really redeemed herself after indirectly getting her family killed in Season 1, or is she secretly plotting against Jon?
  • Will Brienne and Tormund ever get together?
  • Although they’re not father and son, Jon is just like Ned. Will his Ned Stark tendencies get him killed…again?
  • Ramin Djawadi is a musical god and should be treated as such. “Light of the Seven” is a masterpiece that deserves all the awards.
  • The writing for “The Winds of Winter” made me actually cheer for Cersei.
  • We all hope that Bella Ramsey comes back as Lyanna Mormont in Season 7 and serves as an adviser to Jon Snow, the White Wolf and King in the North.
  • And we all agree Dany is going to wreck all the dicks in Westeros. The only question that remains is who will join her when she gets there.
  • And more!

As usual, Take the Black leans on the NSFW side (beware F-bombs). And hey, since we’ve all seen Season 6, there aren’t any spoilers to worry about, so you Unsullied listeners can listen without fear.

This week, we were happy to welcome our very special guest, WiCnet’s very own Editor in Chief, the man, the myth, the legend, Dan Selcke! As I mentioned above, the podcast ran extra long this week, because we really wanted to finish the season review and get into filming news about Season 7. So, fire up your favorite videogame, or whatever you do to pass the time, and enjoy the shennanigans!

We’ll be back to our shorter podcasts next week, where we’ll discuss Season 7 filming news, and where the various actors have been spotted. We will also be discussing the Game of Thrones panel at San Diego Comic-Con, so be on the lookout for that. Valar Morghulis, ya’ll.
