The Twelfth Doctor has had quite the unique look since making his first appearance on Doctor Who. Now that Series Ten has begun filming, his outfit has had a slight change.
With Series Ten of Doctor Who starting to film, and the images leaking out from the set, we are starting to notice subtle changes. This happens with every season of the show. Maybe established characters look slightly different, or previously seen sets are not quite the same as they had been. Sometimes, these changes are minute, but they are still interesting to see.
Such is the case with the changes to the Twelfth Doctor’s look. While he has been quite distinctive since his initial appearance on Doctor Who, and his hoodie has been one of his iconic fashion choices, that does not mean that little tweaks cannot be made. In fact, there have been a few that were noticed as Peter Capaldi interacted with fans the other day.
Exhibit A:
We actually got a glimpse of this new look back in June, when Flickr user mugim0e posted a bunch of photos.

First, we have Capaldi wearing a knee-length coat, which is in contrast to his previous thigh-length ones. It’s a minor detail, but it is something that is noticeable. It is interesting to note that the Eleventh Doctor also got a longer coat near the end of his run. Another new feature is the coat’s bright blue lining. Under this, he has a new bulky, grey hoodie, which is a change from his more streamline blue or navy. With this, he combines a white, button down shirt and a suit vest. The combo is also a change in that he previously only wore hoodies with t-shirts. Finally, there are his trademark skinny trousers with boots. This combination fits his character quite well — gravitas combined with subversiveness. The Twelfth Doctor demands to be listened to and to be taken seriously, but he is still punk rock to the core.
With all of these layers worn in the summertime, hopefully Capaldi is staying hydrated, and at least somewhat cool.
