Recently, Matt Smith discussed the hypothetical future of Doctor Who, while Pearl Mackie and Matt Lucas gave a vague sense of what is to be.

Just as Matt Smith put the kibosh on the rumor that he would be the next Doctor through some sort of degeneration, he turns around to fan the flames of speculation on another matter. In a web Q&A with The Guardian, the actor — who previously played the Eleventh Doctor — answered a fan’s question regarding the prospects of there being a female Doctor one day.
Here is the exchange:
"Mamaca: How does my daughter become the Doctor? She wants to know. Thanks!MattSmith1: Well, she has a chance. I think a Lady Doctor could be close. And would be fun. So practise, practise, practise. And talk really fast. And think really fast. And be really brave. And mad. And silly. And good luck maybe it will be you!"
The term “Lady Doctor” is so charmingly British. The reason why he thinks that one “could be close” is unknown. Is it a guess based on the current general culture of which we are a part, or does he have some actual intel from people who work on the show? Whatever the case, we agree with the sentiment. A while back, we even posted an article featuring an excellent potential candidate.
Turning to current cast members, Pearl Mackie — who will be playing Bill, the Doctor’s newest companion — tweeted about her general impression of the second half of Series Ten:
Matt Lucas (Nardole) shared on Instagram the following picture of him with Mackie and Peter Capaldi. In it, we finally get a glimpse of what Nardole has on under his coat.
When asked to dish some details, he got cheeky:
Last week, he gave Mackie some Twitter love in the following cutely worded declaration:
Having already briefly seen her in action, we get the same impression. We are looking forward to seeing more of her, as well as the brilliant performances of the rest of the cast.
