It was originally thought that, when Jenna Coleman left Doctor Who, she would not be returning. However, Peter Capaldi hinted last month that she may return to the Whoniverse. Coleman recently addressed the issue once again.
With all of the different incarnations of Clara Oswald that existed in the Whoniverse, it seemed likely that Jenna Coleman would remain as a part of Doctor Who. Even after the death of Clara, the splintered versions of her throughout time and space would likely be making appearances at one time or another, as she had helped guide the Doctor through his most difficult moments.
Yet, that was not supposed to be the case. Clara was gone, and with Coleman’s exit, she was not expected to return. Or, at least, that is what we were told. But at Awesome Con last month, Peter Capaldi coyly hinted that Clara’s exit may not have been so final. This lead to Coleman recently addressing those rumors in an interview with Christina Radish of Collider.

Yes, Coleman did not indicate that a return would be eminent. And she did say that Clara is likely bouncing around time and space with Ashildr, attempting to figure out how to use the TARDIS as they are on their own adventures. But, she did not rule out the possibility of a return at some point, which could lead to her remaining as a recurring character on the show.
If this happens, hopefully they can bring Maisie Williams back, too. The tandem of Clara and Ashildr would be great to see once again, especially if they make repeated guest appearances — much like we have seen with the Paternoster Gang, or with Captain Jack in the past. Having recurring characters that could literally be anywhere in time and space would be a nice wrinkle to the show.
