Watch a bar full of Game of Thrones fans react to “The Winds of Winter” in real time
Game of Thrones Episode 610, “The Winds of Winter” aired over a month ago, and yet people are still talking about that jaw-dropping opening. You know the one: Ramin Djawadi’s “Light of the Seven” plays as each of the key players dresses for the big day ahead, and the intensity builds until the Sept of Baelor explodes in a thundering climax.
As he did all season, YouTuber Sean L recorded the reactions of Game of Thrones fans at the Burlington Bar in Chicago, which holds regular watch parties. As you might expect, reactions to “The Winds of Winter” were particularly strong. Here’s the first part:
First off, while the crowd clearly loved the Sept of Baelor being blown to bits with wildfire, I think it was Arya killing Walder Frey that got the biggest reaction. Perhaps six seasons of Stark oppression being released with the slice of a throat (and one disgusting slice of pie) is tantamount to some quality therapy.
There’s also what I like to refer to as the “Shaming of the Sand Snakes.” As you can see in the video, these fans seem to despise the Dornish, not an uncommon feeling.
I have a couple of favorite characters from these videos. The first we will call Mr. Shownly, although he’s later identified as “Captain America” in the second video.
And then there’s this group of friends, who are clearly book-readers, as you can see them mouthing things like “Frey pies.”
Seriously, watching their reactions is priceless, and my favorite part of the video. Burlington Bar needs to make these three their mascots and give them free drinks every Game of Thrones season to draw patrons in to come watch each episode. In fact, I think I’m making the trek to Chi-town in the hopes of drinking with them. Here, watch part two while I plan my trip:
Okay, so, clearly the three book reading friends got every thing they wanted here, what with Tyrion being named Hand of the Queen, R+L=J being confirmed, and Jon Snow being named King in the North…now if only George R.R. Martin would finish the actual The Winds of Winter book, everything would be perfect.
However, it’s Mr. Shownly’s reaction to Cersei taking the Iron Throne that wins the second video. By the time Cersei dons her crown, he’s had enough.
It’s okay, Shownly, a lot of fans feel the same way.
Personally, I haven’t enjoyed something like this since the plethora of reaction videos that flooded the internet following “The Rains of Castamere,” aka The One With the Red Wedding. It’s nice to know the internet can still pleasantly surprise me.
