Yesterday, it was announced that a Game of Thrones Live Concert Tour would hold fans over during the wait for Season 7. The music of the series has always been a highlight, starting with the show’s dramatic theme song, which has been covered dozens of times in dozens of ways in the last six years. And with “Light of the Seven” becoming a surprise viral hit, now seems like the perfect time to have composer Ramin Djawadi take center stage and perform the music for fans.

After yesterday’s announcement, Djawadi spoke at a fan event in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Palladium, hosted by actor Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark). According to Entertainment Weekly, he revealed that the idea for the tour had actually come up during a studio session, one I’m assuming took place a few seasons back, since “showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss and author George R.R. Martin” were present, and Martin has not been involved with the TV production for some time. “We’ve been working on it for a while,” Djawadi said. “So it just seemed now, after season 6, it was such a fantastic season, so we thought there’s a lot of material now to draw from.” Djawadi, who used to be a touring musician prior to becoming a TV composer, can’t wait to get back on the road.
During the event, an orchestra played a 15-minute set, hitting musical highlights such as “The Rains of Castamere” and the show’s opening theme. The organizers also debuted a concept video for the “virtual experience” the concert will offer. The plan is to take the audience on a trip through Westeros and Essos so they can experience the width and breadth of the show’s world.
"The concept video showed the 360-degree stage with two giant platforms for Winterfell and King’s Landing, along with giant telescoping pillars at the ends that shift and move during the show to unveil new set designs. Mini platforms will represent smaller settings like Dorne and Meereen. The Iron Throne is the nucleus…We really want to summarize the show the best we can. There’s a lot of different locations and events to cover. If you come and watch this concert, you really get a nice summary and a nice look back on the past seasons.https://studio.brightcove.com/products/videocloud/media/videos/5074780497001"
The press release also promises new images created just for the tour. Might some footage from Season 7 sneak in? (Djawadi says he hasn’t started composing new songs for Season 7 yet.) Whatever happens, the tour, which runs from February to April (starting in winter, naturally), should help tide fans over until the new Game of Thrones season debuts in summer 2017.
