The Doctor often finds his companions for his journeys by happenstance. Could his potential appearance on Class lead to a cast member of the spin-off being a future companion on Doctor Who?
Bravery and a willingness to follow directions are two hallmarks of the companions on Doctor Who. Being in situations, such as those in which the Doctor routinely finds himself, can be quite unnerving. Going through those battles, and having a preemptive idea as to what they may hold, is a tremendous advantage.
This experience, however, is traditionally gained through a trial by fire. The companions are often thrust into situations where they have little idea as to what they have gotten themselves into until the moment happens. Perhaps there is. With Class soon starting up, and the students of Coal Hill School facing those alien threats as well, that experience will be there. Add in the potential of the Doctor being a part of the Class, and getting to see these students in action first hand, it could make sense for a future companion to come from the show. This would be an interesting opposite of all of the other spin-offs, which have featured former companions and friends of the Doctor.
Having that level of continuity would not only help Class establish itself, but would also solidify the show as part of the loose canon of the Whoniverse. As each spin-off, comic book, audio play, and novel has their own place in the history of Doctor Who proper, bringing at least one of those characters along to the main program could help ensure the long term success of Class.
