14. Faux Cersei’s Outfit

The “Game of Thrones Players” as they were dubbed by the production, were supposed to be a hilarious funhouse look at the events of the first four seasons. The broad interpretation of events, the over-simplification of the characters, the cheap high school play-level of the sets and costumes…it was all about the production poking fun at itself and the over-the-top luxury of the real show.

But it spoke to how much we were supposed to identify with Essie Davis’ Lady Crane, and her performance as “Cersei,” that her outfit was not a joke. Richard Grant’s Izembaro, as Robert, wore a fat belly, and his Tywin wore a wig so terrible it almost seemed like a standalone joke commentary on the level of wigs the show uses in every episode. But Lady Crane’s Cersei has a beautiful wig, almost as fine as Lean Headey’s. Her dress was the most luxe dress treading those boards. No wonder Eline Powell’s Bianca-as-Sansa coveted playing her role to the point that she hired assassins.
