By David Hill
The War Doctor has become a fan favorite despite just making the one appearance during the 50th anniversary special. A new script, written specifically with him in mind, is going to bring him on an all new adventure.

Chances are, the War Doctor will not make another appearance on Doctor Who. This is quite unfortunate, as John Hurt’s appearance in the 50th anniversary special quickly became a fan favorite. Fortunately, the Big Finish episodes have helped give us more of the War Doctor, allowing us to hear more of his adventures through time and space.
Fortunately, a new script has been written specifically with John Hurt as the War Doctor in mind. Penned by writer Andrew Smith, the new script is called ‘The Eternity Cage,’ and will involve the events surrounding the Sontarans getting involved in the Time War. Alas, there has not been any word as to whether or not Strax will make an appearance.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the Sontarans are involved in the Time War. The Daleks and the Time Lords already had their hands full with one another, and introducing the militaristic race into the mix will only complicate matters. Likewise, seeing the War Doctor as part of a rescue mission will be a fun take on the character, as his expertise will be used for the preservation of others.
It will also be fun to see his further adventures involving the Sontarans. They really are the perfect enemy for the War Doctor, being a warlike race that will give him a battle without the verbal jousting one expects from a Dalek. More businesslike, and to the point about their cheerful mayhem, they seem to have a lot in common with the War Doctor, excluding their outlook on war.
This is not the first time that Smith has written something related to Doctor Who. Both the Fourth Doctor serial ‘Full Circle‘ and its novelization were penned by him. He also wrote The Invasion of E-Space, The Brood of Erys, Mistfall, The First Sontarans, Vengeance of the Stones, Domain of the Voord, and The Sontaran Ordeal for Big Finish. His short story ‘The Constant Doctor‘ appeared in the anthology The Scientific Secrets of Doctor Who.
