Noel Clarke Would Consider Directing Doctor Who If Asked

Lots of Doctor Who alumni would love the chance to come back to the show. It is not often, however, that we hear them talk about hypothetically doing so in a different capacity.

With all of the talk about who will, or will not — or who wants, or does not want to — return to Doctor Who, we now have another name to add to the discussion. Actor Noel Clarke, known in the Whoniverse and Mickey (or Ricky) Smith, has recently stated in an interview with Morgan Jeffery of Digital Spy that he would like to come back to work on the show, only he has not been asked. He also expressed a desire to direct rather than reprise an acting role on the program. While this sounds like a fantastic idea, it would be nice to see Mickey again, especially if his wife, Martha Jones, made an appearance, as well. And you just know that the Twelfth Doctor would revel in being able to address him as “Mickey the Idiot” once again… for old times’ sake. The last time that we saw him on television was in ‘The End of Time.’

More from Winter is Coming

Aside from his most well-known role(s) on Doctor Who, Clarke has been involved in the Whoniverse in other ways. In ‘Dalek Empire IV: The Fearless‘ by Big Finish, he voiced Talis Minor colonist and Earth Alliance Spacer, Salus Kade. He also wrote the Torchwood episode ‘Combat.’ This was a milestone in the umbrella franchise as it was the first time that one of its recurring actors contributed a script.

To date, Clarke’s directing credits include the films Adulthood4.3.2.1.The Anomaly, and Brotherhood. His most recent acting role is the character of Gunner Martin in the ITV dramatic series The Level.
