Doctor Who’s Peter Davison Blasts Current Quality of TV Shows

With the number of channels that we have these days, one would think that it would be easy to find something worth watching on television. Former Doctor Who star Peter Davison disagrees with that thought.

For those with cable or satellite television, the number of channels offered can be mind boggling at times. In theory, there is something for everyone, making it universally possible to be entertained at any point in time. Of course, that also means that there are a great deal of channels that fall outside of one’s interests, but those channels can be easily skipped over.

Even with all of those options, it can feel as though there is nothing worth watching. This is a sentiment shared by many people, including former Doctor Who star Peter Davison, who feels that the sheer volume of television channels has made it difficult, if not impossible, to find quality programming.

His logic for such a view is pretty sound. While the high end shows have remained excellent, there is a lot of programming created just to fill time. It is not a surprise that those shows would lag behind in quality in virtually every facet.

The problem may be that Davison is looking for good quality in the wrong place. Online services like Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime — with their own original content, as well as lack of corporate interference with creative minds — could be more up Davison’s alley. We are willing to bet that he would not be hard pressed to find something new that appeals to him in such places.

It may also be interesting to find out if his thoughts about the lack of quality in most television extend to Doctor Who. There may be the questionable episode or two, but for the most part, the quality of the show has remained top notch. Of course, having an excellent cast can help cover up any negative aspects.

Peter Davison is not happy with most of what’s on television these days. It makes sense, given that programming is much different than it was during his time as the Doctor. What do you think of the current state of television? Let us know in the comments below.
