Doctor Who: Steven Moffat Does Not Anticipate a Multi-Doctor Episode Any Time Soon

Those of us waiting for another episode with multiple Doctors may have quite a long wait with which to deal — outgoing Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat says not to expect a new adventure with multiple Doctors for some time.
Some of the most beloved episodes in the history of Doctor Who have featured multiple Doctors. It makes sense, as having the past and present incarnations of the Doctor come together to fight a common foe makes for riveting drama. Such episodes have to be great, and they delivered.
After the 50th anniversary special, and the persistent rumors of Matt Smith possibly returning (he is not), Whovians are waiting for that next episode with multiple Doctors. It would be nice if one or more past Doctors came back to help the Twelfth Doctor in his efforts to save the Universe from another major threat.
Unfortunately, another gathering of the Doctors appears highly unlikely, at least for the foreseeable future. According to Steven Moffat, a multi-Doctor storyline is not coming any time soon. After all, if these stories keep popping up somewhat regularly, it takes away from the splendor and uniqueness of such an episode.

However, Moffat did give an idea as to when such an episode may come about. He mentioned that, as the 50th anniversary special did so well, that the 100th anniversary may be the perfect time for a new multiple Doctor storyline. Although, one has to wonder how many fans would still be mooning over the elderly Tennant and Smith at that point. Obviously, Moffat was just joking, as it is rather unlikely that Doctor Who will even still be in production by that point in time.
Chances are, we will not have to wait another 47 years for another episode with multiple Doctors. As of right now, however, less is certainly more. These episodes need to be special, and by having them every couple of years, the magic will soon fade away. It just would not be the same.
