3. The Stormlands

Now we’re getting to the really juicy prospects. The Stormlands represent a very likely landing spot for Dany, primarily because of their proximity to King’s Landing. The Stormlands lie directly south of King’s Landing. They’re also not far from the western coast of Essos, which makes for a relatively short journey. From there, it’s a quick march to King’s Landing and the Iron Throne.

The Stormlands are also ripe for invasion because it remains unclear who’s in charge there now that House Baratheon has been wiped out. That type of power vacuum leads to chaos, and as Littlefinger once said, chaos is a ladder. Daenerys could land here, fill that vacuum, and begin her invasion. The Stormlands also share borders with Dorne and the Reach, meaning Daenerys and her allies could come at the Lannisters on three fronts.

Then there are the books to consider. As we mentioned a few slides back, in A Dance with Dragons, a character named Aegon Targaryen sails over from Essos and tries to invade Westeros. Aegon’s been cut from the show, but in the novels, he first lands in the Stormlands. The showrunners have repurposed elements from the books before. (For example, think about how they had Arya bake Walder Frey’s sons into a pie in Season 6, something that Wyman Manderly did in the novels.) They could easily take elements from Aegon’s invasion in the books, like his landing in the Stormlands, and apply them to Dany’s invasion on the show.
