Westworld episode 4 “Dissonance Theory” was intense and left us with a lot to unpack, so let’s get started.

This might have been the most intense episode of Westworld yet. Westworld episode 4 “Dissonance Theory” answered some questions, gave us some intriguing clues, and of course opened up even more mysteries.

In “Dissonance Theory” we have several storylines going on at once, so let’s try to take them each one at a time.

First we have Dolores and Bernard. Now Dolores is in several of the storylines, because we still aren’t sure if we’re seeing one or two timelines. If the William and man in black theory is correct, which I think it might be, then everything wouldn’t be happening to Dolores at once.

On the other hand Ashley Stubbs, the head of security got a report on Dolores not being where she’s supposed to be. We then saw a host trying to take Dolores back to her ranch, the host said that Dolores’ father was worried about her. Dolores of course replied that her father was dead. William then appeared, so we know this was from the timeline of Dolores starting to remember. This may put a bullet in the man in black and William theory.

The other significant piece to take from the Dolores, William, and Logan story was that Dolores ran into Lawrence’s daughter. Lawrence’s daughter told Dolores about the maze in a roundabout way by drawing in the dirt. It’s also implied that the daughter and dolores were at the town with the church. The church is white in the flashbacks but has the same steeple as the church where Ford was walking with the boy and Bernard.

We found out a lot about the man in black in this episode. We know now that he is confirmed as a guest as one of the other guests mentioned that he had a foundation. This means that all the man in black is a host theories need to be tossed out. We also know now that the man in black is on a mission to free the hosts, he told Lawrence that while they were riding in the armored stagecoach.

Finally we learned from the man in black, and Armistice, that Wyatt is the next key to the maze. This of course led to the man in black and Lawrence heading off in search of Wyatt, and running into poor Teddy once again… Teddy didn’t die in this episode, but he was all strung up and tortured when he was found.

Ford meanwhile is apparently running the costs up while digging up part of the park as part of his new story line. The most shocking thing in all of this is the way we see all the hosts at work in the fields and with pick axes, the slavery feel to the whole thing is really dark.

Ford also mentioned that the board had already sent a representative into the park, we of course have some theories on who that may be as well.

Last we have Maeve who is remembering things just like Dolores. Dolores did say the “these violent delights have violent ends” phrase to Maeve. Now Maeve is remembering things about being repaired in the body shop. Maeve drew a picture of what she remembered the man in the body shop looking like, and when she went to hide it… she found another stack of them.

Hector was also back and he helped Maeve discover a bullet left in her, although there was no wound. What happens to Maeve and Hector next will be interesting. We were given the impression they were shot, but we didn’t see them get shot, so we don’t know for sure.
