New Season 7 set going up near the Mourne Mounrtains in Northern Ireland

At the moment, the eyes of many a Game of Thrones fan are turned to a number of beaches in the Basque country, in Spain, where the show is filming what look like very interesting scenes for Season 7.

But as that happens, production in Northern Ireland continues. There’s a new set going up near the Mourne Mountains, where the production filmed scenes in the Riverlands in Season 4 and at Vaes Dothrak in Season 1.

Note the telltale pink GOT sign. Let’s take a closer look at that aerial shot.

So the production is spreading snow over a field. It’ll probably stand in for somewhere in the North, or beyond the Wall. If the production is readying a big area, we could be in for a battle scene, or a smaller-scale action scene. They probably wouldn’t build a snowy expanse just for a conversation.

But we can’t know for sure. Watchers on the Wall posted a couple of shots nearer the set.

Notably, the production waited to film Season 7 until later in the year than usual because it wanted to take advantage of naturally snowy conditions. For whatever reason, they’re building this snowscape right now. What do you think this might be used for?
