Filming continues at the ruins of Italica near Seville, although unlike the shoots at the beaches in the Basque Country, we’re not getting a flood of leaked photos. It’s easier to secure this area, pictured above and below, than it is those open-air beaches.
What we do know is that a ton of Game of Thrones cast and crew members have been spotted in the area. And today, two important ones were spotted, people that may point to what’s being filmed here. Let’s talk SPOILERS below the video.
First, let’s round up who’s been seen in the area. There are a lot of people, including Nicolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne), Daniel Portman (Pod), Pilou Asbaek (Euron Greyjoy), Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei), Liam Cunningham (Davos), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion), Jerome Flynn (Bronn), Conleth Hill (Varys), Iain Glen (Jorah), Anton Lesser (Qyburn) Rory McCann (the Hound), and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (the Mountain).
That is a lot of cast members in one place, sixteen in all. It’s already confirmed that both the ruins of Italica and the Royal Shipyards of Seville will stand in for the Dragonpit in King’s Landing. Are all of them filming at the same location, or even the same scene? That would be a trip, to see Daenerys in the same room as Jaime Lannister in the same room as the Hound in the same room as Theon Greyjoy, etc. Or are they filming multiple scenes with different sets of characters at the same locations? (Watchers on the Wall reports that, at minimum, Conleth Hill and Peter Dinklage filmed scenes today.) Or is the production filming elsewhere in the area, at locations that will stand in for different parts of Westeros?
We’ll be watching and sorting through it. Before we get to our two big arrivals, let’s look at a few photos of the people we already know are there.
Davos, the Hound, and Brienne, just hanging out.
Mother of Dragons, Breaker of Chains, and Lover of Ice Cream.
Naturally, Kit Harington gets hit up for selfies a lot.
Okay, the new people. For a scene set in King’s Landing, you may have noticed that a very big player was absent from the list above: Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister). Well, she finally turned up, sharing a meal with Hill.
@yeahclarke has been indispensable when it comes to photos, by the way.
So the queen of the Seven Kingdoms (for now) is here. That’s not too surprising. Where there’s drama, there’s Cersei.
The other big arrival is director Jeremy Podeswa, who uploaded photos of the early morning sky over the city to his Facebook page. His comment? “Call at sunrise.”
Podeswa’s presence is significant, because we know that he’s directing both the premiere and the finale of Season 7. It seems unlikely that such a large confluence of characters would come together at the beginning of the seasons, so we’re probably looking at them meeting up for the finale.
More as it develops.
