Fans are sure to be scrambling to attend the Doctor Who Experience now that it has been announced that it will close in the summer of 2017.
The Doctor Who Experience has been a fantastic way for fans to immerse themselves in the world of Doctor Who. The interactive attraction has been operating in Cardiff, Wales since July of 2012 and is continually reinventing itself. A new storyline featuring Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor was added in 2014. Always up for going above and beyond for fans, he made an appearance as the character in 2015, leading a spirited tour for the lucky and surprised young guests. The gesture was in recognition of the tenth anniversary of the 2005 revival of the show.
In 2016, the Doctor Who Experience even went so far as to include an exhibit for each episode of Series Nine, including the Christmas special, ‘The Husbands of River Song.’ They also promptly displayed new companion Bill’s outfit from her introduction video soon after its release.

Whether or not you have already attended the Doctor Who Experience, you may want to make arrangements to get there as soon as possible. According to an article by Andrew James of Wales Online, as of the summer of 2017, the attraction will close its doors indefinitely due to their “five-year sub-lease from the City of Cardiff Council” coming to an end. A spokesman for the council elaborated that the relocation from Olympia to Cardiff five years ago was always intended to be temporary, and the closing “has been mutually agreed [upon] by all parties involved.” BBC Worldwide has released a statement saying that they are “not sure” at this point whether or not the Doctor Who Experience will be relocated.
Before closing its doors, the attraction will add “new props from Capaldi’s debut series, as well as sets and monsters from the [show’s] history.”
