The Mannequin Challenge is the latest big thing in viral internet trends. For those who do not already know, it basically involves people freezing mid-action while being videoed. Naturally, for a fan of Doctor Who, this would likely bring to mind creatures such as Autons and Weeping Angels — the first because, well, they are mannequins, and the second because of the character trait of freezing while being watched.
Someone that likely would not immediately come to mind is Captain Jack Harkness. He may be as handsome as a mannequin, but that is as far as logically connecting him to the craze goes… unless you take into consideration John Barrowman, the actor who plays him.
Yes, on November 20th, the actor, singer, dancer, writer, etc. joined the ranks of the many famous people who have participated in the challenge. In his case, the frozen action is the autographing of Torchwood comics, also being done by his sister, Carole E Barrowman. Joining them in the effort is his assistant, Kelsey Work.
The brother and sister team collaborated to lovingly create the new line of comics for Titan.
While amusing, this video is tame compared to his usual antics. Later that same day, he was seen getting his very lower back autographed by former Arrow co-star Neal McDonough, who played Damien Darhk.
Back in April, Barrowman’s husband, Scott Gill, unintentionally exposed himself in the background of one of Barrowman’s videos. In May, there was the mishap in high heels while appearing on Loose Women. Related is his conducting a lesson on how to walk in high heels at North Carolina Comic Con in November of 2014. In July, there was the cosplay (and high heels) smorgasbord at Comic Con International San Diego. And then, of course, is all of the kissing! These are but a mere few examples of his adventures.
