Comedian Patton Oswalt submitted a very amusing audition video to be the next Doctor on Doctor Who… jokingly, of course.

If you ask a fan of Doctor Who, they are likely to have at least one person whom they think would hypothetically make a good Doctor. Many of them would include themselves as a contender, although likely more jokingly than anything. What is somewhat unusual, however, is a fan making an audition video of their own.

Well, comedian Patton Oswalt has done just that through tagging BBC America on his Instagram account. (Why he did not contact the BBC directly, I am not sure. Is he going for an American remake?) The video features a closeup of him during what appears to be a trek in the front of a subway train. It is done in the style of various Doctors of the classic years in which the Doctor’s face would hover during the opening credits. With a look of what can be described as either catatonia or mild awe, Oswalt stares into the camera as his traveling companions perform the theme music acapella. It ends with a zoom into his forehead.

Oswalt also shared his post to his Twitter account, resulting in the following exchange between him and the official Doctor Who BBC America account:

Of course, this is just all in good fun, but I think that he could be a good Doctor. I get a Sylvester McCoy vibe from him. It is highly unlikely, however, seeing as how Oswalt is American. Speaking of American comedians whom I think would make good Doctors, I have been saying for years that Reggie Watts would be perfect.
