The 50 Best Game of Thrones Characters, Ranked
42. Ser Loras Tyrell
We can’t help but wonder if things would have gone much better for Ser Loras if he had just moved to Dorne. No one there would have cared that he enjoys the company of men, and he and Renly could have ridden off into the sunset together. But I digress.
Don’t let the moniker “Knight of Flowers” fool you; Loras is a talented swordsman. Usually relying on slickness of appearance, his skills in the jousting arena have given him a one-up on both Gregor Clegane and Jaime Lannister. That’s no small feat.
Either way, Finn Jones is not only nice to look at, but captures a character who is just trying to find his place in a world that doesn’t approve of who he really is. We wanted things to work out for Loras after seeing how heartbroken he was over Renly’s death. But, like so many of us, he picked the wrong guy. Opening up to Olyver the prostitute ultimately sealed his fate, since homosexuality is considered a sin to the Faith Militant. The painful, humiliating way poor Loras went out in the Great Sept of Baelor is enough to break anyone’s heart.
